There is always a learning component to any program at DANI. A simple maze? Not at all. Sydney, our Therapeutic Recreation student created a new course; Mazes & Labyrinths. ‘The participants learn where to start and stop and what to do when you hit a wall. It includes discussion, problem solving by learning to navigate 2 dimensional and walk through.’
The final maze project implemented skills we learned throughout the Mazes program. This maze took hours to make, and it is wheelchair and walker-accessible. For this maze to be completed, participants used their skills to navigate it.
As they get more familiar with the maze, then more elements can be added to walk through. For example, they might walk through it while acting like an animal, or stations can be added to stop and do another activity before moving on. The final project was implemented at both campuses, giving everyone a chance to give it a try.
