It is appropriate that we launch the blogs on our new website during the holiday of Chanuka. The situations are extremely different. But the comparisons are still worth noting.
The Maccabees were armed with unsophisticated weapons or whatever they could gather and successfully fought with strength, determination and pride. In a similar vein, the participants at DANI are bolstered simply by purpose, spirit and friendship and they are guided by staff that are encouraging and supportive. They face barriers in society together. The ‘DANI Maccabees’ display courage daily as they become self-advocates while designing their own futures.
The Maccabees were few and yet were able to overcome many, the DANI participants are few and yet “enlighten” others. They strive to bring awareness and education. A small jar of oil glowed in the temple for eight days, we know that every small accomplishment of our adults will illuminate and create a lasting difference in our community
